Deaf LGBTQ/Social Justice Activist Drago Renteria To Open 3rd Asterisk Trans* Conference





Deaf LGBTQ/social custice activist Drago Renteria will open the 3rd Asterisk Trans* Conference with a keynote address on February 24, 2017 at UC Riverside. Friday's opening in HUB 302 is free and open to all. ASL interpretation will be provided for all conference speakers, performers, and workshops.

Drago Renteria is a Deaf, Chicano, heteroqueer transman who is passionate about making a difference. He has been out, proud and visible for over three decades and has worked to create awareness and social change in the various communities that he is a member of. He is founder of the Deaf Queer Resource Center and has presented on LGBTQ issues nationwide. Among the boards he has served on include FTM International, the Transgender Law Center, and the Youth Gender Project. Drago is listed in the inaugural Trans 100 and most recently named one of 13 Trans Latinx Activists Who Are Changing the World. Drago is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and did part of his undergraduate work at Gallaudet University. He is a professional photographer and lives in San Francisco's Mission District with his partner of 16 years, Jennifer, and their magical furkid, Magnus.
